Think Feel Know
Where? What? How?
Think. Feel. Know. - definition: 1) A simple way to categorize the different ways in which we all process information. 2) The 3 spaces an individual traverses in order to come to a decision. 3) The 3 different communication styles that we all use, with a personal preference for one, or two over the others. 4) A new business in the personal coaching market that has an advantage over the ubiquitous "Life Coach".
Oh, Right... Of course, Think Feel Know.
This company is part of a family of coaching businesses originally under the brand of "Shirlaws', but now under a parent organization called "Navitas" (latin for energy). The BIZ coaching sector is Shirlaws and it was started 10 years ago by Darren Shirlaw in Australia. Since then it has grown to include New Zealand, the UK, the US, Spain, and even Dubai. The parent organization is building a family of 200 individual business for which it provides the coaching intellectual property (IP), as well as the marketing materials for a menu of business, personal, marketing, fitness, and energy coaching companies.
"Think Feel Know" is actually one of 20 coaching frameworks that Darren Shirlaw originally developed for the mid-tier business coaching company he started a decade ago. It is a communication framework used to develop relationship and create unity within a business. Shirlaw shortly discovered that it was extremely useful for any relationship: community, organizational, institutional, familial, romantic, etc.
About a year and a half ago Think Feel Know "the business" was born in the UK, spearheaded by Neil Tuson, the man who invented an 'Indicator' questionnaire which is able to not only tell you in what order your preference is, but the percentage with which you prefer to use them. For example my preferences distinguished by the Indicator are: 45% Think - 30% Know - 25% Feel (TKF). The Indicator can be taken online (http://www.thinkfeelknow.com) for a fee; you will get your personal results along with a detailed analysis of how you communicate best and where you may run into challenges.
It Is Simple, Repeatable, and Teachable - Which is GOLD in the Coaching Process!
Along with the UK, TFK the business is now in the US and Australia, and primarily works with different organizations, businesses, schools as well as individuals. The beauty of this coaching model is that it is simple, repeatable, and teachable. One of the problems with life coaches is that they must recreate the wheel with each new client. Of course some of the really good life coaches keep a tool-belt of repeatable exercises and methods, but this framework (along with any of the other frameworks and tools that Navitas is developing) can be taught to anyone and used at any level of development.
When I realized that I could be giving my clients consistent, simple, memorable value - again and again, a new possibility opened up for me. Simple and repeatable is good! The easier this stuff is to learn and apply, the better. I can still use all of my skills, talent, senses, and creativity as a coach, and simply add on to a universal framework. My prejudice of packaged coaching methods dissolved (well at least for the right methods heh, heh) and a new freedom was discovered.
In a nutshell:
Think is a way of communicating that revolves around data: words, numbers, facts, details. The nature of Think is very "heady", detailed, linear, logical, sequential, verbose, driven to a specific end.
Feel is a way of communicating that revolves around energy: feelings, pictures, metaphor, narrative. The nature of Feel is very "body" or embodied, elaborate, relational, colorful, musical, animated, emotional, driven to establishing a relationship.
Know is a way of communicating that revolves around instinct: very few words, almost no detail, short sometimes abrupt decisions. The nature of Know is very "gut level", intuitive, decisive, concise, confident, driven towards deciding and moving forward.
And YES each of the colors is on purpose.
I am very excited about how this framework and this coaching business can impact the way people communicate. Communication is at the heart of relationship, and relationship is at the heart of everything! So the strengths and weaknesses that you have in your communication are the foundation on which your life is built. How sound is your foundation?
